Rotary Events CalendarEach year the Ancaster Rotary Events program offers a variety of fun opportunities for the community. These events are designed to provide the community with varied opportunities to come together to enjoy friendship and experience fine entertainment. They also provide a means for the club to raise funds to support its charitable activities. Most events are sponsored by individuals and organizations which share the Rotary Club's objectives to promote international co-operation, education, health and well being and support of youth. Sponsorship opportunities vary by event. Metal Scrap Day, Sat. May 3, 2008May 3, from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, residents and businesses were able to bring their scrap metal items to the Rotary Centre Parking Lot at the Ancaster Community Centre, off of Martins Road. This was a great opportunity to get rid of the metal items in your yard, garage or basement. Fridges, stoves, washing machines, feezers, barbeques, bicycles, lawn furniture... The proceeds of the Metal Scrap Day are used to support the work of the Rotary Club of Ancaster throughout Ancaster, Hamilton and the world. More details of many of Rotary's community development projects can be seen in the pages of this web site. Unfortunately in 2008 a week of rain had a significant impact on the amount of material which was collected. A rainy Saturday saw many adventurous people bring their metal goods for recycling, but not in the quantities of the previous year. In spite of this setback the event still removed many tons of materials and raised some funds for the work of Rotary. We are looking at the viability of running another Scrap Metal Day in May 2009....so check back for an announcement early in the new year.
Mexican Fiesta - Valentines Dinner and Dance: February 7, 2009The first event of the 2009 year, the Valentines Dinner and Dance will be a superb evening and provides the community with an elegant and enjoyable evening of fun and entertainment. The 14th annual Valentines Dinner and Dance will feature a Mexican Fiesta Theme with a fun Mexican dinner, champagne reception, silent auction with quality gifts and dancing. Each year the band has been a hit and attendees enjoy dancing to a lively program. The Ancaster social calendar begins the year in fine style with the annual Valentine Dinner and Dance. Over $14,000 was raised in 2008 to support the work of the Rotary Club of Ancaster...The Haiti Water For Life, Polio Plus, Lloyd Kirkpatrick Youth Awards, Fieldcoat Museum, Ancaster Citizen of The Year Awards, youth sports, and other programs. We thank our sponsors and others who provided financial and goods in kind in the past to support this important event. We encourage others to become involved so that in 2009 we can surpass our record of funds and be able to invest even more into the community in the coming year.
